archetype of the epic hero

The archetype of the epic hero in Beowulf is that he has courage, powerful, strong brave, and unrelentless. Beowulf has abilities and talent that are like god like. He is the warrior that everybody wants to be and the enemy that nobody wants to face. The society saw him as their hero who would protect them; he is like the Hercules of their time. He had to defend his society from the demon grenade. Grendal has made havoc on the mead-hall for 12 yrs because of what is inside of it. So Beowulf got the job done because that is what a true hero does for his people. I feel like the hero's back then was savage and the ones now stand for justice like for the country.
They did whatever it took to kill their enemy while you just have them go to jail now. Like superman saves lives but he does not kill anyone. Batman is the same way; they just put them in jail. But back then they wanted blood and mutilation. They both have the same ideas of being a hero but one is tougher and the other is more cleaned up fighting. They have the same type of powers and stuff. The powers they have are supernatural. Like He-man strength, courage of a lion, and the weight of the world. Yet they still get the job done. If I was one of those I would want to be half Beowulf and my other have superman. But they both are humble which makes them better than any other hero. Some are very cocky and make the people of the town feel bad but neither of these heroes is those types of guys. We went over in class was vocabulary words. Some of the words I didn’t understand because we hardly use that text these days. But you helped us as in the class with understand those words because we used the text when we did this.

Heaney suggests, “abounds in passages which will leave an unprepared audience bewildered”

"thereupon to Beowulf the broad kingdom
on hand passed into his hands;he ruled well
for fifty winters--then he was a wise king,
an old warden of the fatherland-- until one began 2207-2215
in the dark nights, a dragon to rule,
he who in a high house watched over a hoard,
a stark stone barrow; the path below lay
unknown to men."

"he who sorely injured him,

because of dire-distress a thief of I know not which
sons of men fled hostile blows,

in need of a hall and there within raged,

a man haunted by guilt, immediately watched over;
2222-2229
then against the stranger stood horror and terror;
nevertheless upon the wicked one"

days and nights, until the flood of Death 2269
reached to his heart.

"power and courage, for that he before many, 2349
narrowly risking, hostilities survived,"

"in the noble one by any means,
that he to Heardred would be a lord,
or the kingdom wished to accept;
yet he to him among the folk upheld with the counsels of a friend, graciously in honour, until he grew older, 2374-2379
ruled the Weder-Geats. "

my hero

Today stories are not exciting and don't have that hero impact like how the folk tales have them. But a major hero in today's black society is Barak Obama. He is the latest president. He is an African American that won the presidency. The community was so proud because nobody ever thought that would be even possible. He inspired little kids. I hear little kids saying I am going to be the next president and I say it’s very possible if Obama can do it so can you. Forget about the color and the race and focus on what you can control like how can you make our country better. A leader would have to have a good attitude, great leader, and a go getter. Those are some of the things a hero will need and also the will to keep fighting and not to give up. If my hero doesn’t show how he wants to be the best and doesn’t try to strive for excellence then he is no better than a bum on the streets. But if he showing hard work and is fighting for that little extra, then they get all my respect. I want to be someone’s hero. If I can I would show them that everything I work for came from blood, sweat, and tears. You have to do the things that people are unwilling to do. So that is the reason why heroes are in another category then those regular people, it is because how they act and do things.

"Being Haunted? "

Juan Rulfo’s novel, as many of its critics emphasize, “Evokes for readers the experience of being haunted” (Anderson, emphasis mine). What does Anderson mean by that? Anderson means that this novel makes the reader uses its past haunted experiences to make them for what the character is feeling. The author relates this novel by using Juan to relate with the reader, which is making us closer with Juan because we are seeing what he is experiencing. The author did this to make the reader feel more attached like it was like you know them personally. So this means you going to feel what they go through and you’ll see yourself in that predicament. Like one of the major things that the author does to make the reader feel haunted is by making Juan talk to all those dead people. Like imagine you in that same situation it just seems way too crazy for me. Like one night I was reading the book and my mom bumped into the wall and it frightened me so I guess I do share the same experiences and feelings as Juan because I thought there was ghost in my room. I imagined myself in comala and seen dirt swirling around abandoned buildings and it was just a bad feeling I felt like I was in one of those feed me commercials and I heard howling of the ghost. I got that into it by reading. One of the themes that are in the book is madness. Madness was one of the things that made me feel tied to the book because you must be crazy to imagine that there is really ghost in this world. All these things are major parts of the book. Anderson makes a key point with his quote by saying” evokes for readers the experience of being haunted” I would have to agree with Anderson because when I read this book it makes me feel like I was one of the characters in it. I feel like I was in the journey with him doing it and helping him out, so this makes the reader feel like he is in it.

What do i see?

What did i see while i was reading the book "Pedro Paramo". I seen alot of things that everyday life people go through. Like the tough times and also the good. I didn't know a person could make me see what the character wasx going through like in the beginning of the book when it talks about being at his mother's deathbed and promising her, he would come back for the land they had. He see spirits like what people imagine and stuff. This story is very creative it has something different then any other story i have read. It touch me because i could see where the narrator was coming from. Once you put yourself in the other person's shoes you see it from a whole another perspective. You got to get out of your frame of mind and see what the book deeper meaning is. For some it comes easy for others you just got to expierence it.

What it means to read, interpret, write, and learn in the here and now? It means alot. It means alot because when you read you see a picture. Its like your mind is making a motion picture. When you read the words you interpet it in a way that totally different then the next person will because of your past expierences. You write what you see and you feel what you write so that's how they call come together. So when all this comes together you learn from all this. We should care about past literarly text because you learn about everything back then, and you can compare the past to the present. A PLN system can really help you out because you can always add on to a system to make it better for you.

senior year first blog

1) My sophomore year, we lost a major game. It was the first playoff game we had. I gave up the winning touchdown. It hurt watching that kid run while I was on the floor watching him go farther away from me. This experience has changed my life a lot. My expectations for myself became higher and I feel like I won’t ever let my team go through something like that. I don’t feel like it will change my approach to reading
2) Do right and get everything done such as work, being on time, turning in late work, and behaving properly.
